How to delete your Exchange Year account and what happens to your data.

You can delete your Exchange Year account and the personal data linked to it at any time. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Delete your account in the app

Open Exchange Year and sign in to the account you want to delete.
Go to the Profile tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Tap Delete account.
Read the confirmation message and tap Delete account again.

When deletion finishes, the app signs you out and returns you to the sign-in screen. You will not be able to sign in with that account again.

If you cannot sign in

Email hello@exyexchange.com from the email address on your account, using the subject line "Delete my account". Tell us the name on the account if you can. We may ask you to confirm that you own the account before we proceed, and we will complete the deletion within 30 days.

For your security, never send your password, one-time codes or full identity documents by email.

What we delete

Deleting your account removes:

Your profile: name, email address, phone number, bio, profile photo and student type.
Your Photo Booth posts, comments, likes and follows.
Your Circle and chat messages, and your membership of group chats. Rooms you created are removed.
Your program applications and saved programs.
Your verification records and the identity documents you uploaded.
Your push notification device tokens.
Your sign-in identity in Google Firebase and your active sessions.

What we keep

We may keep a limited amount of information where the law requires it, for example for fraud prevention, security or legal claims. These records do not include your profile or sign-in identity. Server security logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

Content you shared with other people may already have been seen or saved by them before deletion. We cannot remove copies that other users or third parties have made.

Data stored on your phone

Time capsule notes, your welcome letter and some profile extras are stored only on your device. We never receive them, so deleting your account does not remove them. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes them from your phone.

Before you delete

Deletion is permanent. You will lose your posts, applications and chat history.
If you signed in with Apple, you can also remove Exchange Year from Settings → [your name] → Sign in with Apple on your iPhone.
If you only want to stop using the app, you can sign out instead; your account and data stay in place.
